Organizational Behavior and Self-fulfilling Philosophies

Part of my MBA curriculum at UT Dallas, I have had the pleasure of doing a lot of reading on Positive Organizational Behavior as well as Self-fulfilling Philosophies. On the POB front, read the book by James F Parker "Do the Right Thing - How Dedicated Employees Create Loyal Customers and Large Profits". Though it is not directly feeding of the POB school of thought, it did highlight a lot of POB philosophies, such as hire for attitude and train for skills, leadership at every level of the organization instead of at the very top etc.

On the Self-fulfilling philosophies front, couldn't help but wonder the crazy economic times we live in. The more people say we are doomed, it sure feels like we are headed towards doom. Negativity brings in more negativity among us. Shouldn't the thought be "times are tough, but we will pull through and get over these tough times"? Who cares if "things are going to get worse before they get better?".. Ultimately, let us not forget that things will get better eventually and what happens in the interim is only going to hurt if we die in the interim before we ever get to see the eventuality. A turn in the road is only an end of the road if you fail to make the turn. Let us keep turning and with a positive attitude, we will soon be where we started and hopefully with the wisdom of what lies ahead if we are not so careful again.
